Default H.O. or not???

Another newbie question..............

The guy that I bought my '92 from said that it had the HO engine. How do I tell if that;s true, and what is the difference?

It's really just a term to differentiate 4.0 engines with the later (1991-2001) Chrysler engine management system from the earlier (1987-1990) Renix (Renault/Bendix) system.

Edited. Should have been Renix (1987-1990).

Past post from.. Cruiser

HO myth buster

Renix in 90 made 182 HP. HO in 91 made 190 HP. That's 8 HP difference.

HO only made more HP than Renix at higher RPMs and not a bit more torque. HO had a 58 mm throttle body versus a 52 mm throttle body on a Renix. That’s 20% more air available through the HO throttle body. The HO also had a better design header. See where I'm going with this?

It’s only a 4% horsepower increase…..

The whole 8HP was not mostly from the head, but from the bigger TB and better exhaust manifold.

Put a 60mm TB from www.strokedjeep.com on your present manifold using the Renix head, eliminate the "crush" in your headpipe with proper re-routing, and go for it.

Like Doc said and I agree, Highly Overrated.

Correct... http://cruiser54.com/?p=568 but there is an affordable device to read the sensors in real time.

Thank you for asking I had the very same question, the info is valuable.

I still show there was one with 190HP and another with 193HP.. not that the 3 HP are that important, but what would be different on the engines?

Note: I need to identify precisely engine, axles, etc as I might have to buy parts here in the USA and bring with me on my trips. It would save me a lot of hassle to take the right part. As my Jeep was built in Venezuela, I am not totally sure all are 1999 parts/items. For example, the remote I have is listed as a 1998 remote, not under 1999... So I am worried that I might have a 98/99 parts combo.mix. :-) In general it should not matter much, just making sure. The engine shot in my album shows some stickers on the valve cover, but I am not sure I would go by the stickers.
