Thanks-- now that the mufflers have broken in a little, it's even louder at idle-- and a lot "lopier". .. scares the bejezus outta people if I stomp on it at a light. Crap, scares the bejezus outta me if I stomp on it at a light. Goes from a quiet, subdued lope... almost like it's going to stall (I know--- bad cam choice, but it sounds awesome) to a full-on v8 roar-- hard to describe-- but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
Its a TBI system from Holley, it uses the existing 4bbl intake....but Captains idea sound like a more economical way to go though because the 2bbl Pro Jection only supports 275hp

just thought I'd share this-- just ran out to grab some milk-- at a stop light, two guys in a neon (with a black faux carbon fiber hood and coffee can exhaust,of course) stop at the light and start tapping the gas--- couldn't resist, so I tapped mine ... thought their windows were going to blow out-- the driver says "Whoaa-- what do you got in that thing.. a v6?"

I know this is SERIOUS thread revival here, but I have a question.
What engine did you go with? I mean, out of what vehicle? I have been trying FOREVER to find out if the Vortec 5.7's have the same accessory bracketry as the 5.7 in this build. I'd rather not chop up my hood for a cowl to clear the alternator/intake. Thanks!
Again, I know this is thread revival from the dark ages, but please don't hate on too much lol.

Basically you can use brackets from anything that had a SBC or even the 4.3 V-6 like in the S-10s (4.3 V-6 is just a SBC with the 2 rear cylinders chopped off).
look for something that had a low hood line, like a 3rd gen camaro or a Impala.
you could probably even run a v-belt set up from an older car/truck if you get all the pulleys.
Basically what Im saying is there are almost unlimited options out there. And it is most definitely junk yard doable

Jmg that's a sweet setup. '88/'89 gm blocks were "transitional" blocks. My 350 in my Chevy had a one piece horse shoe shaped bracket that all the accessories bolted to. I pulled my '88 block and swapped it for a 1972 400 small block. Jegs sells a plate to drop a factory gm TBI setup onto the spreadbore carb intake for $66 bucks. Even used the serpentine setup from the original motor. What you've done is outstanding.

And here's a serious revival response-- It's an l98 smallblock 350 . I believe it came out of a Camaro.
If you're going to do this build, I highly recommend considering either an lt1 or an ls1 --- they're at the point now where they've been so mass produced that they're really not that expensive. it's a bit trickier to install, but novak sells just about everything you need.
If you're going to go with a pre lt/ls motor, do your research. GM produced many differnet versions of the small block, and many different sub-versions. The l98 was sold in the corvette, Camaro, and light trucks, each had wildly different hp numbers.

Awesome!
Question, is that the Novak shifter kit you have installed? I'd love to see more pics / close up pics of that. I really want to do that to my XJ but dont want to ***** up the console.

the tranny shifter isn't from novak--- it's an art carr shifter, specifically for the chevy turbo 400 tranny.
the transfer case shifter is from novak.
Both are amazingly slick, and highly recommended. Let me know what additional pics you need.
