Default Engine performance monitor??

Hey guys I know this is probably a real noob question but I can’t really find what I’m looking for on here so I figured I’d make a post. I have a 1992 XJ that I’m starting an engine rebuild (stroker) on and I know I’m gonna have to break it in once I’m done. I don’t have a RPM gauge or any gauge other than MPH and fuel. My dash is about as basic as it gets lol. I guess my question is is there some kind of engine monitoring system I can get, like something that’ll tell me RPM’s, oil temp and pressure??

Also what is this port on the driver side? An OBD port?? Any help is greatly appreciated

You can swap out the idiot light cluster gauge for a full gauge cluster.
Guys do it all the time. Give you an RPM, coolant temp, and volt gauges.
In the '96 and down XJ's you need to swap some sensors too.
Not sure which ones but should get plenty to read about with a Google search.

Thanks for the info! I found what I was looking for, didn’t think it’d be that simple. Thanks again!!

Forgot to mention. There is the mileage reading though.
Not sure how guys have handled that.

It's called a tachometer. "Tach" for short (pronounded, "tack".)

To keep my mileage correct when I swapped gauge cluster I swapped my speedo/odometer assembly over to the new cluster. If the two have different faces then it requires playing around to get the speedo to read correctly.

I was gonna suggest an OBDII app to keep an eye on things but then I remembered that's not an option for you.

He's looking for an "RPM gauge" and he's building a stroker motor. This should be entertaining!

By playing around do you mean to change the mileage reading or for your speed read accurately..?

To get the speedo correct. For the mileage, I just swapped my odometer onto the new cluster. More info on my build thread.

There's no sensor for oil temp on these Jeeps (just oil pressure), so if you're interested in that info, you'd need to install a temp sensor.
