Older Gauge Cluster Into '93
Hey, guys! I'm back with another question that I'm pretty sure falls into the OEM sections. My '93 XJ has the gauge cluster with the big fuel gauge and idiot lights instead of gauges. To me, it sucks hairy donkey....marbles....
My brother's has the cluster with a tach and real gauges on it. What I'd like to know is if I can swap one of those in place of mine. I like the look a lot better and despite having a little tach (that's pretty much dead, by the way...), I think a stock style one would work better in my Jeep.
I do have a coolant temp and oil pressure gauge already installed, but I think I'll take them out if I can do this. Is there anything MAJOR that would need to be done, like fab work or is just a simple swap and plug in deal?

I get it now! You are not taking your brothers out is why you didn't tell us what year it is!
My 90 is different than yours but I hear I can change my cluster to one with gauges if I change my temp and oil senders. For a light the "sender" is more like a switch that grounds the gauge lead when hot. The one for a gauge is more of a variable resistor to bring the gauge up.
I'd hazard a guess that 91 to 95 should work for your 93. Deff not 90 or earlier, or 96-97 or later. Maybe to play it safer, make sure the rig it comes off has the temp sender on the top, left, rear of the head, like yours.

So, anything from '91 to '95 or '96 should work just fine then, simply swap out clusters....One other thing I'd consider doing would be change the gauge faces. Possible?

HEY! I said the same thing. OK 91 to 95, and told you to change the senders. Man, I get no respect! (Just joshing, let us know....
Again, make sure the temp sender is on the top, left rear of the head on the doner Jeep.

Lol DF, I know what you said and I remembered that. I was just thanking him for the guide and sensor pages. I should've thanked you to begin with, and I apologize for not. I hope this one will be accepted, though....Thank you!
