Default Driver door check strap thing

More little things.

What do you think I need to make this stop popping when opening/closing the door. Looks to me like the bracket is wallowed out, but just wanted to know what you guys think.

Replace the pin?
Replace the bracket and pin?
Do I need to buy the whole kit?

I haven't had to deal with this one yet but If it were me I'd get the whole kit. Looking at the video it looks like the bracket is wallowed out like you said. You could buy a new bracket and end up with a pin that doesn't fit right.

I fixed the exact problem by drilling it out from 1/4" roll pin to 5//16 and installed new pin purchased at Lowe's.

Interesting, my assembly is removed by a PO

When I tried to fix this issue on another make of vehicle, the noise was coming from a part inside the door or post itself that was worn

I am pretty sure I did try and fix my Jeep and encountered the same issue, it still has no check strap

(now I recall, there is a first class write up from Go-Jeep about how to modify & swap a rear one in to make a permanent better fix, I will link it up later if I can)

Right on guys, good options.

I just went ahead and ordered a Bracket and Pin off FleaBay. It was only $10 for a two-pack (both fronts), so I guess we'll see if i get bit LOL.

There's nothing inside the post, what you see is what there is. Th door is another matter, as I found out when I closed the door after the pin came loose & the strap retracted inside the door - & won't come out!

I prevailed upon the good nature of my (then, ZJ owning) friendly neighbourhood mobile mechanic to deal with it when it happened once before, but he wouldn't tell me how he did it.

Still it's only a problem when parked facing up a steep hill, although having replaced the bracket on the post to cure the irritating double clonk, it does irk me a little.

This guy has an outstanding website detailing many XJ mods.

He was a Jeep and suspension mechanic, and his work is first class

Yup, made my 1st uprated headlight loom/harness from his, almost, step-by-step instructions, but he lost me on the back door conversion so they'd actually open far enough for adults to enter & exit - but don't recall him dealing with this specific issue.

Finally got around to replacing this.

Very easy to do. Painted the bracket and just swapped it and put in the new pin.

Turns out all it needed was the pin, as the hole didn’t look wallowed out and the pin was split in half. Oh well, put the new bracket in anyway.
