Default Door Lock Actuators

Has anyone replaced them with the stock ones? I did the overhaul and the universal ones weren't strong enough to move the rod. Even when they were lubed. I dont want to go through the dealership for obvious reasons. So has anyone had any luck with ones by Dorman or VDO? Which is better?

I have never seen all the Door Lock Actuators stop working at once. Are you sure they are getting power.

I picked up a used one ebay for $30 bucks a while back. The guy I purchased it from gave a 30day warranty. You can also try the jy.

Yes, they are all getting power. I can hear them all try and move the rod inside of the door. I also bought the jeep after they had stopped working

I think I will try and look on ebay soon. How should i test them at the JY?

Are they all not working? If it is all of them I would start by checking the grounds. If you don't have a good ground they will not work correctly.

So i read a thread about the pre 91 XJ's having an odd wiring for the door locks. In the write up i read that you need to add 2 relays. So i went to radio shack to get some and they dont sell 5 prong 30 amp relays? Neither do Oriellys or advanced auto parts. This just seemed weird to me. Does anyone know of anywhere to get them? With the socket for the relay? I am also a little confused about how everything wires up. Has anyone done this?

I did the write up consisting of adding 2 relays. It works great now except my driver side door. The linkage rods need to be twisted in order for me to connect them to the latch. Twisted around each other. The rod that is at the top needed to be at the bottom. So i am wondering if you guys think that this could be a rod bent? Or maybe the rods need to be switched in order for them to not touch eachother? Im not sure. I pulled my door panel off and it worked fine. But once i put it all back together it stopped. It will unlock but not fully lock when i push the electric button.

Where did you get your relays?
I had the same issue trying to find the relays ended up finding an beat up taxi that just so happened to have two relays i needed, as for the pigtail socket I just got some female spade connecters and attached them straight to the relay from the wire.
Glad to hear you got it working though.

the rod is indeed bent...gotta be carefull to not let the panels weight be held on the rods

Alright thank you very much. I have a couple more sets of rods i can throw in there. Does anyone have a diagram of how the rods should be in there? im nervous ill do it wrong. The ones at the junk yard took some maneuvering to get out.

I actually pulled them from another XJ at the JY. You just need to find one with keyless entry. i pulled mine from an 87 so i am not sure if anything changed with them after 90. If the jeep has electric door locks it should have the relays. There will be 2 and they will have sockets. I actually found a write up with pictures. He has a build thread with great writeups in it. Search 1987 Grand Wagoneer on google and it should pop up.

Here's Greg Smith's write-up. I've done 2 XJs with this and it makes a world of difference.
