Default Cummins swap?

I'm looking into swapping out the stock 6cyl for a cummins 4bt. my friend can get me one for $600. Would it be better to get the 4bt or a 6bt? If anyone has already done this, what kind of mpg does it get? I'm looking to do this cause i want a diesel truck, but i have a cherokee and cant afford a pickup. Plus a diesel makes a cool Jeep cooler.

I've seen several 4bts in Wronglers but not a Cherokee yet (that's your cue). I'd go with the 4 because of weight. The 4 will make a ton of torque and prob get you in the mid 20s for mpg. If you do it make sure to do a build thread. Plan on an axle swap cause stock jeep tooth pics won't hold up to a diesel.

Actually someone has

It seems like a pretty cool swap, there is another option but it would be more exspensive.

the 6bt is the 5.9... thats not gonna fit... a 4bt for $600 is a good price since most with over 200k are still $3k... go to 4btswap.com or something like that... its a whole forum dedicated to 4bt swaps...

this swap would be awesome, but a 5.9 would not fit at all, my jeep next to my cummins you can definetly tell there is just no way.

Not to mention the smallest rear axle put behind the 6 was a Dana 60. I broke teeth off the ring gear during a hard launch of the Dana 70 in my 97 12 valve CTD and all it has is a #11 fuel plate and the fuel pressure turned up. Can't imagine what it would do to a 35.

I think it would be interesting to see what would happen just for kicks...do the swap for the engine and front axle and leave the stock rear for kicks, blow it, take lots of pictures and replace with a bigger haha
