Default clunking noise beneath driver seat

I have a 96 xj 4.0L automatic with a RE 3.5" lift and whenever i let off the gas i can hear a mild clunk that sounds like its coming from below me. It makes the same sound when i press the gas again. It will also make this sound multiple times when im just coasting at an averag speed. Also when i go over speed bumps. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Eric

As weird as it may sound, check your exhaust pipe, my mounts are broke so it flops around for no reason.

Next Id check the UJoints.

Could also be transmission mounts, the transmission itself. Id say get under the Jeep and see if you can move anything by hand.

All my mounts are new and I am pretty sure its not the exhaust. There is some rotational play in the front drive shaft but I have been told thats normal. I just changed the fluid in both differentials and I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. Im hoping u-joints but I don't think there is any play in them. The only thing I can tell is there is some slight forward and backward movement in the front driveshaft. I am worried something is going to break and leave me stranded which wouldn't good seeing as how I am in NC this summer for work and have no tools or a garage to fix it in.

"Pretty sure" is no substitute for looking.

Minimum clearance of 1 thumb from bottom of exhaust pipe to trans crossmember.

Just fixed a similar issue. New trans mount cured the problem. Old one had collapsed.

reason I said that was because I know the hanger above the crossmember has plenty of clearance but I wasnt positive if it may be hitting elsewhere. That and I just put a new muffler on the other day and it was making the noise before that.

Thanks,
Eric

Any ideas on this one? I think it's getting worse and I think it may be driveline related. I say that because all suspension components are new as well as motor and transmission mounts, tie rod ends and bar, drag link, track bar, and a transfer case drop. Someone has had to had a similar problem in the past. Please help.

Thanks,
Eric

Check your LCA bolts. I had a similar noise and had one bolt that needed to be tightened.

Yeah I checked those too. Just last week I went through and put a wrench on every suspension component to make sure it was all good. It was. Someone at work said something about a center bearing. Do we have one of those and if so how do I check it?

Thanks,
Eric
