89 Jeep xj will only start with ether?
My 89 jeep starting acting up all the sudden and when its cold it wont start unless I use starting fluid once its warmed up it starts ( a little hard) but it starts but once its cold its a no go. I figured it was the coolant temp sensor so I went ahead and changed it and nothing. What other sensors could cause this?

It may not be a sensor issue; rather a problem related to fuel delivery.
1. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?
2. You need approximately 31 psi to start your vintage engine. I'd verify that with a fuel pressure gauge which can be rented very inexpensively from many parts stores. Call around.

Hey I had a similar issue and it turned out to be my crank position sensor, at the bell housing. It would go open when it shouldn't causing the vehicle to die in some situations also a no start condition where I had to spray ether in to get her going. She started like a diesel on start up too loud and letting you know something was off.

I actually had the same thought as Useless there. There is a narrow window where a spark is too weak to spark (ethanol blend), but will spark ether. A Long shot! but it's easy enough to check if you have a crisp, blue, snapping spark, and/Or;
I has this "canned" in case anyone is interested>>>
Anyone with an 87 to 90 Renix Jeep has two or three minutes to see that their
CPS is putting out at least .35 AC volts. I don't mean to come off rude, but if you can't connect a meter and turn the key, we may not be much help.
AC voltage CPS test; Small clips on the meter leads really helps. (you need contact with those little pins while it cranks)
Unplug the connector at the back of the manifold with wires going down to the bell-housing/cps. (it's a three wire plug, with only two wires)
Probe the two wires to the cps with the meter set for low AC volts. (a 200 scale on mine).
Crank the engine and note the voltage. (jump it if your battery is low)
Mine somehow works with only .3 my wiring/grounds must be pretty spiffy. .5 seems to be a good mark. One article talked of .5 to .8. **Update, it soon failed. I installed Napa #css980 in my 90, that part will work back to 87. You can also check for 200 Ohm's resistance, +/-- 75, but the ACV is what the ECU is using.
