Default Clean engine gunk and carbon build up

Okay guys well my dad got home today and his buddy who use to be a pro rally driver or something along those lines said they use mercon/dex to clean the engine from all the crap. I think he said they put it in a spray bottle and spray it into the carburetor while someone has it revved to 3k rpms. Now my question to you is... what do you all think of this ? Im not really feeling to good about this but im still learning so Id like to hear some opinions.

I have heard of this before, although I have never tried it. Supposedly the cool tranny fluid hits the hot carbon and causes it to explode.

Trying to clean carbon build up? Well I been building mopar drag cars for a while and what we did isn't suggested but worked wonders. Get some low brand oil but thick. Maybe 15w 40 and put a little gas in with it. (All in oil tank) run it but for no more than half hour. Drain the oil and put in more crap oil and run that for bout a half your without gas. Then change oil again with your normal weight oil. The gas clean the internal portion of the motor and the reason for changing the oil again is to flush the existing gas. Keep in mind if you rub it to long with gas or kerosene it can wash out the main bearings. I did it to mine and she purs. . Most mechanics don't suggest doing it tho and of can be a hassle with a total of 3 oil changes.

DO NOT EVER DO THIS. You were lucky.

ATF fluid can be used to fix a sticking carburetor. Yes oil can clean oil, but not as good as you may think.

I use this stuff every day to clean engines on the inside, without having to do a tear down.

I may have gotten lucky but it works. If done right its not as big as a risk. I mean yes it has its flaws if done wrong. I did it on my 4.0 and I have full life back and great oil pressure. I did it to my super bee as well which is a 496 stroker with 9:1 compression. But it is unsafe to the motor if its not maintained and CAN completely wash out your bearings/ harm your motor. If you've never done it and trying on your own I don't suggest it but I have been for a while.

Not on my rig. Why do you feel the need to do this? List your symptoms.

I did it to clean my motor. Over time I noticed the power decreasing as the miles kept going up so I gave it life again by do this. I'm not disagreeing with how harmful it can be but its worked in my favor. A did a fhim compression test and kept close eye to oil pressure and nothing has gone wrong. I have been driving it after the gas flush now for 5000 miles. Keep in mind I only used more oil and aprox 5:1 to gas. And used thinker oil to keep the viscosity up.

I have done the same thing with a trickle of water from a garden hose from 10 to 30 seconds at 2000 RPM. Use care to avoid putting too much water in and possibly hydro-locking the engine. Also allow he engine to run for 20 minutes after doing this to ensure that the exhaust gets hot enough to burn off any passed through water vapor.

lol, I have no need to do this. I just wanted to see what you guys thought of it and I mean after a while it seems like a good idea to clean the engine out and my dad asked his buddy and thats what he told him. I thought Id ask you guys to see what you think about it or share your methods of cleaning out the engine.

That is an old mechanic's trick for removing carbon from the tops of pistons and from the valves.

Again, use with caution.

Me, I put BG44K in a full tank of gas to clean the injectors, valves and pistons. Works great.

As far as flushing the crankcase, it should be done without any "shock treatments". Take a peek into the oil filler hole on your valve cover to get an idea what the rest of your crankcase looks like.
I've had excellent results with Marvel Mystery Oil as far as cleaning up the sludge.

If your trying to clean injectors and tops of valves

Techron
Gumout WITH regan the ones without are not as effective
B-12 chemtool

Pistons/chamber
Seafoam with some mmo/acetone ( very little acetone)
Google seafoam trick or intake use
The best way to do this is remove your plus and use a turkey baster to fill the cylinder up with ( not a ton load) let soak for an hour or two start up, enjoy smoke show and beat the **** out of it,( drive it hard for a couple minutes, you know u always wanted to see how fast you can get to 80) also do this on a hot motor not a cold one, yes it will cool enough to not crack a piston by the time u get all the plugs out

Engine ( internal ) how bad is it?

Half a can of seafoam drive for 15 minutes and then use a good engine flush, I drive around the block with the flush , and engine under load works different then at idle, anyways, do not run it to long, drain while scalding hot ( good time to pull plugs and shove some seafoam mix in there)

Use a strong detergent oil
Pennzoil ultra clean for low mileage
Rotella t6 5w-40 for high mileage
Run for 3k and it should be clean, if not you have to work a little harder haha

I use the sea foam fuel treatment and the spray to clean out the intake. Seemed to work really well on my jeep.

Well i figured i have low compression in cylinder 2, its 80psi so maybe cleaning the carbon/gunk of the valves would maybe solve the problem, whats your thought on this ?
