Default Axles swop?

Will 1994 xj sport axles fit under a 1988 xj without and mods?

Yes, except you will need a different driveshaft for a 8.25 vs. a D35.

Really.

You'll also need the correct u-bolts (new, don't re-use the u-bolts) and the plates from the donor rig.

It is a direct swap, you just need to also get the driveshaft from a XJ with the same rear axle/transmission/engine combo...

Thanks for the info... Now just have to figure out if it has the 8.25 or not the guy is sure on the year but not on anything else so will just have to look. On the u bolts are they wider or longer I have already replaced the rears when I replace the axle the frist time?

Since the 8.25 has axle tubes that are greater diameter than the D35, you need u-bolts that are bigger (larger diameter). They don't really need to be longer.

I will be doing the exact opposite. The donor 88 is an automatic and the 94 is a 5-speed. Can I use the drive shaft from the 88 or reuse my 94? I believe they are both 8.25.

No the transmission length is going to kill you. The 88 driveshaft will be too long (since the 5 speed tranny is shorter).

Doing the exact opposite of what? Going to a D35 from an 8.25?

88 axles in a 94. I am not sure why I asked that now that I think about it. They are both 8.25 so nothing needs changed other than the axles right?

to the op, your 88 front axle should have bolt on caliper brackets, the 94 won't, so you may have to change the knuckles and keep your stock ones, or get new calipers for the year of the new axle.
it's an easy job to swap out knuckles tho.

Thanks it's a monday and my day off so not all ther today. I'm just looking to drop my gearing from the 307 to 355 witch i was told that most autos came with. Going to go get the numbers of the axles and find out what they are and whats in them. The donor has both axles and drive lines for $100 so maybe I will get lucky and it will be a 8.25 as well. The axles will be going into a manuel hoping it wll pull up I70 alittle easyer. Have a stroker motor build in process to so maybe one day will be able to get over 50 and out of 3rd gear.

If this doesn't work out for you, keep your eyes peeled for 4 cyl. powered XJ to get 4.10s.
