Ok do this look at the rear axle is the bottom of the differential cover and the differential itself round, or is the differential cover round and the bottom of the differential stick down a lil and is flat. If I wasn't on vaca and by my rig I would post a pic for you of the 8.25"

Do you have ABS?

My '96 doesn't have ABS and has the 8.25.

The 8.25 was never used on ABS models, so any XJ with ABS will have a D35.

The pic above is an 8.25. The 8.25 is easily identifiable by the flat bottom, D35 is rounded
