Default '99 XJ Alarm Immobilizer Issues. WTF Is Going On?

The factory alarm system seems to be preventing the vehicle from starting after having disconnected the battery to do some work (fixing power window problems & clean corrosion off the battery terminal posts).

For the past few weeks that I've owned this vehicle, I assumed the alarm system didn't work because I don't have a key fob & the light on the dash never lit up. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, it seems to have reactivated itself and I'm struggling to figure out how to turn it back off.

Now the light blinks on the dash (showing armed). When I open the door the lights will flash but no horn (I honestly don't think that works) & the jeep won't start.

Notes:
- Vehicle has run & started perfectly before disconnecting the battery.
- Soldered 1 wire in the door that was broke & causing the pass rear window to now work. 2 other wires in the door had wear on the sheathing so I wrapped them in electrical tape.
- I'm getting power to the dash, radio, dome light, etc & battery is at 16volts/ 80% charged.
- In other threads people have stated that it'll roll over but not start. For me it won't roll over at all (see video).
- I tried locking & unlocking the doors/ hatch with the key. Didn't work.
- I checked fuses under the hood, looked fine.

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I can't see the video at work but... Just on a hunch try starting it in neutral.

I've been wrong before but I wasn't aware of any OEM immobilizing alarm system that came stock on any XJ.

Perhaps it's aftermarket?

As far as I know the OEM alarms on the XJ's didn't come with the light. So, I would suggest. Is to get under the dash and make sure that it is an after market system and someone didn't add the light. And if it is after market just remove the system. You just have to make sure that reconnect all the wires that they cut to install it.

Anyways. There was on oem immobilizer on a 99. Take a look for a viper box or something of the sort. Behind the dash, ticked underneath the center consoles, behind the radio etc etc. Seeing where the light is I'd say its somewhere under the column. Pop off the plastic kick plate, unscrew the metal plate and look in there.

Ah, the part where I asked if it was a WJ even though it clearly says XJ in the thread title and his signature?

Yeah, I caught that.

I have a bad habit of reading the body of the post and ignoring the title after I've clicked on it.

That'd be it. I had hit send, refreshed the page and saw you had edited your post. I had acted quickly before you saw me make fun of your 'nonexistent' blunder and a period and slash is what you got lol.

Now I could be wrong here but I've read probably 80+ pages on "no start" & " immobilizer issues" until my eyes started bleeding & many have referenced a flashing indicator light on a stock security system.

Now to confuse things even more, there's also a micro switch under the dash & a horn under the hood (says directed electronics) but the wires are cut. Basically I know the vehicle had some brand of DEI alarm installed somewhere along the line. Usually the factory security will be disabled when an aftermarket system is installed.

So I'm pretty confused which system I'm actually battling here.

I also noticed that I can't lock/ unlock any doors from the drivers side (with the key or the switches). I can hear each lock actuator in the doors click but they don't actually lock/unlock.

I have used two different driver door modules so I'm pretty sure that's not the issue. The key won't turn the mechanical lock, it's like something is keeping it from turning.

All the other locks on the jeep (besides the driver door) work as I can lock or unlock them just fine with the pass side switch or with the key in the hatch door. Interestingly enough though, the key will not work in the passenger door exhibiting the same issue as the drivers door lock.

I thought the alarm & lock problems were separate issues but now I'm starting to wonder if they might be related in some fashion?
