'97 tranny in '89 RENIX.
Is this possible? Both AW4's and 4.0 engine with 231 transfer cases. My RENIX tranny has been beginning to make a howling noise after the jeep is warmed up and it feels like it's slipping or my jeep is bogged down. Just wondering if I should throw this extra one I have in or explore the reason for the howling noise. Also the jeep only does it after warmed up and sitting at a stop light it will act like it shifts up a gear and causes the jeep to misfire.

Sure it's the tranny that's bad or is it just starting out in a higher gear.
A couple of issues. Your trans and the 87 trans have different output spline counts.

Well when the jeep is cold it'll startup and drive like normal, no bogging down or howling. I mean I do have a broken o2 sensor that could be why it's misfiring, but the howling and random shifting I have no clue. Sometimes I'll start it up and the rpms will stick at 3100rpm and not go down until I shut off the jeep and turn it back on

I'm gonna replace the upstream o2 sensor and see what happens. The TPS is newer I still have my old one that worked fine I could try putting back on

Your TPS is most likely failing or not adjusted properly.
Of the Tips in my link, which have you done?

I have put a new TPS in and adjusted just like in the link, still no change. Today I put a new o2 sensor in and the jeep ran better. One thing is that after driving on the highway on a hot day like today I was coming home on the highway and the jeep was starting to leak oil and tranny fluid. It never does this just driving around or even temps 70 and below. Yes full fluids in engine and tranny. ATF DEXRON-MERCON III
