Default 96 xj problems need help!

I got a 96 xj 4.0 high output. It stopped running and I wasn't getting fuel and I changed the pump, stainer, and filter and it still won't run for more then 5 seconds and I've tried holding the gas at 3000 rpm and it just dies doesn't bog down just dies. It's not the cps cause I've changed it 4 different times with 4 different ones. My fuel pressure is at 52 psi. Can anyone help please? I got a big wheeling trip for New Years that I've been planning for 4 months now and have to get it running! Thanks!

Let's dig in a bit to see if we can narrow it down. A few questions for you.

1. Does it start and run for 5 seconds every time you try to start it?

2. When it stalls, does it restart immediately?

3. Is there an aftermarket security system installed?

4. Check engine light on or have you seen it? If so, you must retrieve codes for clues.

1. It only starts sometimes
2. No it won't for a while
3. No security system
4. No check engine light. Have a code scanner and no codes pop up

See if your fuel pump ballast resistor is unplugged or has poor connections. Bypass it if you want to just for fun.

No ballast resistor in a '96.
When it dies and won't re-start, you'll have to check right away for spark and fuel, see which is missing.
What else happens when it kills? Do the idiot lights come on like they do with the key in "on"?

I agree with Radi that it's time to do some fuel/spark testing. Back to the basics.

93 was the last year for the ballast resistor.
