i did an engine swap on my 93 cherokee and we cant get it to run right. when i first start it the jeep runs good for 10-15 seconds the the check engine light will come on and it put puts and dies. i can keep in running if i give it gas but once i let off it will die. its like it stops giving it fuel and it almost seems like its missing. any ideas?

Im not sure if it helps but the Idle Air control motor will cause these issues. My 97 quit idling and struggled to start. If I gave it gas it would run fine, if I let off the pedal it would die in a second or two. The part is super easy to change and is very affordable.
I was told it is a 4.0 inline 6.Everything was supposed to be the same as the engine that was in the '95 as far as the long block was concerned. We switched the metal parts like the flywheel, intake, exhaust manifold, etc.I'm 99% sure we switched the distributor also. The funny about it is the bad engine we took out was running only problem was there was water getting into the oil. We switched everyting from that engine to the '87 so we thought it would crank right up.Since the install I've put a new crank position sensor, distributor cap, rotor and wires. It's a mystery to me so anything you can come up with I sure would appreciate it.

To the original poster.
1. Get a fuel pressure gauge and install it on the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Watch your fuel pressure closely. If it drops and correlates to dying, you have a fuel problem. Ballast resistor should be bypassed just to rule it out, but if it runs for 15 seconds, it most likely is not that. Could be pump/regulator/filter, etc
2. If the check engine light came on, you have a stored code. You really need to know what that code is. Here is a link as to how you can do it without a code reader on your
93. Post the exact code number here for comment.

I wasn't asking you crudfoot, i replied in your other thread about your issue.
To the OP:
Read what code the computer is throwing
key on, key off, key on, key off, key on - count the check engine light flash sequences to get the code(s). All codes will two digits with pauses between digits, and will end in 55.

The fuel pressure goes to about 40 lbs. as soon as the key is turned on.I put a MAP sensor on today and it didn't help any. This thing has got me perplexed plus the Jeep people in my neighborhood.
