I have a 96 Cherokee that was running fine for a while. Then I didn't drive it for a couple weeks and when I went to use it again it wouldn't start.

I gave it a boost, but it would only start while hooked up to another battery and with the engine revving. It stopped as soon as I took my foot off the pedal. So I revved the engine for several minutes and finally it was able to idle without turning off.

But then when I turned it off and tried to start it again, it wouldn't start again.

So what gives?

 

"Wouldn't start again" in like won't turn over or turns over but won't start?

 

Won't turn over. It sort of sounds like it's trying to turn over, but doesn't actually. Before this all started, it wouldn't turn over at all.

 

try hitting the starter with a piece of wood or something, see if that does anything

 

how good is the battery, its connections?
