I have no Idea. I just know its there. Maybe for drain back purposes? I noticed the oil slinger on the crankshaft isn't slinging oil from the oil pan. So that might be how the slinger gets its oil? Its a simple pushrod engine but it has more technology than the Apollo Moon Lander controlling it.

Now that I got it painted up all nice I need to be careful where I bolt the support chain. I was thinking compressor bracket bolt and the rear head bolt. Any suggestions?

Been busy with a Shovelhead rebuild for a friend. 4.0 Ready to drop in. Replacing the harmonic balancer. So when I get to # 1 pressure will push out. Slap on the balancer then go 720 and put it on zero and throw in the distributor? I read the tag on the firewall and no timing adjustments are needed?

Just remember rotor does not point to no 1 like older non computer controlled . Dist goes in on compression stroke or when pressure pushs out as your saying. Crank mark on Zero...http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/dist_index.html

The retaining bolt on the distributor is mounted on the distributor you can't rotate it at all. On the renix it wasn't. I dismantled the renix distributor for the shaft and threw the rest in the trash so I cant provide a picture to show you the difference. I'm going to cut up an old cap and put a window in it. (thanks Cruiser's mostly renix tips) Very clever. Just try and get to drop in a little ways past #1?

Think I got it guys.
Will have to remove it again on startup day but I got it figured out. Going to drop it on the twentieth. Will try to take a video of camshaft break-in if its not too dark out. Thanks for all the helpful info.
