Got a deal on a new ruff stuff heim joint steering and trac bar setup. Not real big on the single shear where the drag link and tie rod meet up at the knuckle. Working on fabbing up a double shear bracket. Going to be a while before its complete but it will get done. Need to get out and wheel. Planning a cow trip in a few weeks.
Got four days off in a row. Not sure when that is going to happen again. Had to make the best of it. I originally planned a cow trip but no one wanted to camp. They all just wanted to do a day run so I split off the Rubicon. Had to get some exhaust work done. It was heating up my axle. The third picture down is what's left of the little sluice after the government blew it up. It was a smooth trip. Didn't have to pull any cable I did have to stack rocks three times though. Blew a bead but it didn't have any problems seating. Racked my bumper going up Cadillac hill. Once we hit the pavement everything went to hell. I blew out both of my trac bar bushings, power steering box and the death wobble was non stop. I limped from Tahoe to my buddy Pat's house in Fresh Pond Then had it AAA home this morning. It was a good trip. Now its time to start wrenching...
Haven't done anything to the Jeep. Need to clean and degrease it before I get too deep into wrenching on it. Its a mess under there. My buddy Ron talked me into getting into the RC crawler world. There's an XJ body and we drink beer.... Its been fun. Going to a convention or something at moon rocks next month. Will see how it goes. I took Dave to pick up a stroker for his renix today. Came from a friend that did an LS swap in his TJ. I'm getting a few parts from it. The intake and power steering pump, distributor and having an extra motor on hand is good insurance.
Got my trac bar bent back. Its only for temporary street use. A WJ guy ( he's a special Jeeper. Has a ls swapped forced induction with maximum boost 15 thousand dollar blown head gasket engine that he just put rock jock or something axles in. Dana 60s front and rear. Great guy just takes advice from the shops that are building his Jeep/thinks bigger is better. I refuse to wheel with him due to the fact that I don't want to drag his weight off the trail.) gave my buddy Ron and I a WJ front axle. So now I have a full WJ disc brake conversion setup. Need to get it all in front of me and see if I can make it work with my hub conversion. Hoping that all I have to do is machine out the center of the rotors to clear the unlocking hubs, drill out the 5x4.5 lugs, press in the new studs and buy all the conversion spacers. Its usually never that simple though.
Daves stroker swap didn't go over so well. Have a feeling the PO floated the valves. It's knocking and blowing oil out the exhaust. Pulled the valve cover and nothing looked good. Borrowing a bore scope from a buddy and getting back to it on Sunday after I get back from cow.
Jeeps been dead in the water since the last cow trip. All of my tie rod ends are smoked. Got to get around to putting together the new steering. Tax season is here. Not buying anymore bolt on parts. Ordering a new welder, tubing bender, tubing notcher, band saw and a bunch of small items. Dave's jeep... Well... Its not being driven. He got a free van. I keep referring him to Cruiser's tips.....
Dude..God invented pavement a reason. I myself don't even use maps, but have been doing way better than that. Clues.>>> Pavement is some shade of grey, or black. There should be green signs with white letters on them. (even arrows). If it looks like a rock pile, or a mud pit, it may well be just that! It's not so hard once you get the hang of it. (if you see a sign that says "Kansas", with an arrow, follow it) We have faith in you...maybe try a GPS? (It really shouldn't be so hard).
