Default 4x4 not working please help

So my 4x4 stopped working every sense i did some work on my front axle for my 1989 jeep comanche 4.0. I had to redo the inner axle seals because it was leaking. So when i replaced it and all i also have to replace the gas-gate for the vacuum device that activates the 4x4. But now when i turn it on the part time light goes on but when i push on the gas it turns off. Also it is not working at all last night got stuck as hell because of it. Also i have the money and was thinking of replacing the front 4x4 with hub lock axle. What do yall think? thanks

Use a hoseclamp to hold the slide collar over on the front axle. Then disconnect the stupid vacuum actuator.

Problem solved forever. I do that on ALL my pre 91 Jeeps.

Sounds like possibly a vacuum leak. Double check your connections or do as diskman said.

I just "overrode" my vacuum slider last night, really easy. I would just remove the clips on the fork move it over and reinstall, don't use a hose clamp
