I know that the 231D has a wider chain in it than the 231J does.. Does anyone know if you can take the wider chain and necessary gears out of the 231D and install them in the 231J or is it too wide?? I am just wondering cause I have been thinking of purchasing a spare 231J from the JY and was noticing that they had quite a few 231D's there as well... so was thinking of purchasing one of them as well to get the wider chain from.. but don't want to waste the money on the 231D if it isn't possible...

There is thread in the write up section about swapping the 231D chain and also using the 231C 6 planetary gears as well

Well as soon as I can actually run through the threads on there, I will find it... I tried searching, guess I just didn't type in the right search criteria... Right now my internet connection is acting stupid and won't open half the how-to's I am trying to open...

Bring a old topic back up since I'm am actually going to the yard in the morning to grab the wide chain and the 6 plantery gears. Being that said I have already disassembled the 231amc case. Have the older cut more round gears as is a 88 with a 21 spline count.
Question is if I was planning on use on using the 231c case out of a s10 that was pre 94 as is should have the round older gears and wider chain correct. Or should I do the same as you did and just get another xj plantery gears and press out the pins and use them to make a 6 plantery. Also for my front output shaft the 231c it the same yoke assembly as the 231j?

Had mine done when the SYE was installed, nice mod for sure if you have the case open anyway.
