Default Overhead Console Accuracy

Hello all,

I have done the research and I cant find any info on this. Does anyone know how the OHC calculates the MPG? I just put an OHC in my 2001 with a 3 inch lift and 31's on stock gears with an auto tranny.

I know that I usually get in the 16-17 range on a tank of all highway driving by the miles driven divided by the gallons needed to fill up.

But the OHC console is reading 18-19 mpg on this last tank. I havent filled up yet to check but I'm 99% sure that I didnt get 19 mpg so my question is does anyone know how it does the math?

I did put in the proper speedo gear so it does read the correct speed.

Thanks

I'm not trying to be a "Smart ***" but those things can be all over the place as well as most of the on-board devices. I finally stopped worrying about MPG with my Jeeps "it is what it is" as well as everything I drive, if I worried about it I would have a Hybrid or something like it.

Just enjoy and fill-up when needed, that's why I have 3 4wd's to enjoy from the XJ to a 1 ton (diesel).

Oh I agree with you. I'm not going to change my driving really or spend any money to try and improve it. But I'm a nerd and like the numbers to be accurate. I imagine it uses the distance traveled and the gas used based on the rpms etc but I thought maybe someone would know more specifically.
