Default 1988 jeep Cherokee base 4L I6 4wd

Hello im panda recently my car has been sending oil into my air filter which was. Clogging it to where my car had no power and would stall when turning or braking it would also idel very low and some times when i give it gas it would die on its own.when driving it wont go to higher rpms and will barely get to 55mph. I have replaced air filter which some what fixed it but not a lot. I have cleaned the carb but no change.i know though that because of my air filter being soaked in oil and some gas it was sucking oil into the carb but still cant find the issue it has a slight very quiet knock but not a lifter noise like an actual knock please if you could tell me what i could do to fix it i would be very grateful

Here's a link to Cruisers web site. Tons of great tips there, including a mod to the valve cover to address excessive oil in the breather line to the airbox. Check that the elbow at the back of the valve cover isn't plugged up. It should have a small passage that hooks to the throttle body (what you called the carb) that draws the oil vapors into the engine. The elbow at the front that goes to the air filter box is supposed to let fresh air in. If you have excessive blow-by, or that elbow at the back is plugged, you get oily vapors going into the airbox instead.

Do you know though why my engine would have no power or acceleration.and if i give it to much air (aka:gas pedal) it would slow down and almost kill the car.it also if i apply the brakes to hard especially while turning the car would stall. And even while parked if i rev the engine it would stall

Complete Tips 1 through 5 at my website.

Have you ever replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

A quick thing is to check the CCV line at the rear of the head. The end on the valve cover has a small orifice in the fitting. Make sure it's clear. Make sure the line is not cracked and the other end is firmly attached to the intake manifold.

The line is outlined in red.

Plugs, wires, cap and rotor are to all be changed at the same interval. 30,000 miles.

Good idea to get the Tips completed.
