I've finished reassembly and the XJ runs great, but what can I do with this old cylinder head? It's not repairable, is it? I'll probably just take it to the metal recycler but I wanted to make sure there wasn't any value to it or if someone could use it.

 

If it's cracked it's value is either as something to tinker with or as scrap metal.

 

the valves may be worth keeping. Ditch the springs.

It could be a small boat mooring anchor. LOL!

 

It will make an excellent paperweight once you clean it up.

 

Door stop would be my vote. LOL.

 

Base for the mailbox. That'll teach those pesky kids to stop doing drive-bys with baseball bats!

 

The best mailbox I've seen yet was one some guy made out of 1/4" steel plate bent to look just like a large parcel box and mounted on 4" square heavy gauge steel tubing all welded together. If some kid hit that with a baseball bat, it would either break his arm or swing the bat around and hit him in the back of the head!

I came from a small town on Narragansett Bay, RI, and one of our older local marinas has a bunch of mooring ***** as well as dockage. He uses old engines as his ball anchors. Preferably straight 6 engines because they lay flat and don't present a navigation hazard. The Coast Guard thinks that's funny!
