Default Baxter Pass & Canyon Pintado

Since we were busy yesterday morning and too lazy to head out the rest of the day, we decided to head over Baxter Pass today for a few hours. Here's a few photos from our morning.

Headed into the Book Cliffs again

Last remianing structure at the townsite of Atchee

Climbing up to Baxter Pass

Headed down the other side

Great colors

Another old cabin along the way

After making it back to Highway 139, we spent some time exploring the rock art in Canyon Pintado, but I will have to post those photos later when I have a chance to go through them. Stay tuned!

Do you ever meet anyone on these trails? Like another truck, seems hard to pass on these roads.

On occasion....I think yesterday I saw 2 other vehicles.

If you need to pass in a narrow section of the road, someone is going to have to back up to where it's wide enough.

Here's a few photos from Canyon Pintado that I promised. We only stopped at a few of the site because it was getting pretty hot out, but Amanda and I are planning on another trip in the fall when it cools down.

Waving Hands site

Kokopelli Site (The principal Canyon Pintado site described in the journals of the Escalante Expedition of 1776)

White Birds site

Just hope you don't encounter a vehicle on a hill.. I believe the person coming down has the right of way though since it is harder for them to reverse up the hill than it is for you to go down..

Usually though you can see someone coming and the respectful thing to do would be to wait until they complete the climb...

I know there are some hills around Telluride that I would not want to meet someone on..

Black Bear Pass coming into Telluride is one way (Except once a year when a special event is held) because of the tight trail and turns..

Intrepid.. as always I love the pics.

actually the vehicle travelling uphill always has the right of way...but common sense should always be used

I knew it was one way or the other.. but to me it would seem easier for both to go down.. rather than up. But agree common sense is best.
