Hey, I just got me a tb and installed it and it's feelin like the map sensor is acting up and my check engine light is on. It's a 63mm bore on a 97 xj. And the map sensors only a week old. My question is, is this just my CPU adjusting to the new bore? Or is something wrong? And has anyone encountered this problem?

I posted this at advance tech thread but no answers in the past 2 days

Thank you for your help you guys

Check to make sure you didn't forget to connect the vacuum line on the throttle body and map sensor. If they are connected and not leaking than look up the instructions for resetting the Ecu.

No, there is a process to reset the memory in the ecu. I used to know the procedure but I've forgotten now. Google should find it rather quickly. You can also find test procedures for your map sensor on Google.

Default Flashing the ECU

Taken from GoJeep home page:
Also it is worth erasing the old ECU or PCM memory. Disconnect the POSITIVE battery Terminal and touch it to ground for 30 seconds. (This is to discharge the PCM capacitors, which maintain the Adaptive Memory.
Reconnect the Battery Cable
Turn Ignition Switch to the “On” position but DO NOT start the engine
Turn Headlight “On”
Turn Headlights “Off”
Turn Ignition Key “Off”
When you start the engine it will be running off a set of pre-programmed tables that come with the PCM from the factory. When you get the engine up to operating temperature, the PCM will start to collect data for the “Adaptive Memory”. The PCM will collect data for Adaptive Memory for the first 50 Warm-up Cycles.

Thanks... I'm on my phone on break at work so it would have been tough to find that and copy/paste it here.

Thank you guys, I'll try this tomorrow. I noticed I had arc on my spark plug wires so I'll do a tune up first

A quick question on resetting ecu, the adaptive program will allow my map to adapt to the new t body?

Yes and it will make those adjustments much faster if you reset it. Also, that spark plug wire arcing will give you the feeling of a bad map sensor. If I could recommend any plug wire brand, it would have to be granatelli motorsports. They have a long wait time because they are shipped straight from Italy, but they are hands down the best I've used. Maybe get a cheap set now just to hold you over.

Yes, you can either touch the positive cable end directly to the negative cable end/battery post or any good body ground point within the positive cable's reach. Easiest way is usually to just touch it to the negative cable/battery post. Be sure to hold it in direct contact for at least 30 seconds to make sure it's fully discharged.

The other part with the key and the headlight is to ready the PCM to learn from scratch again IIRC.

Ok so I hadve tried flashing the ecu 2x now and I was wondering if my dash would give me a confirmation that i did it correctly. Because sofar I have seen no change. I also did a full tuneup( plug, wire, rotor, cap) and still no go. Would a bad fuel pump and bad exaust cause this problem? I All ready ordered me map replacement harness and it should be in tomorrow, so I'll test that theory out tomorrow.

And I read up what a map sensor dose and they say they measure the atmospheric pressure and match it in the intake. If that's true what is the sensor that measures the external pressure? A o2 sensor or something

Your Jeep will give no confirmation of the Ecu being reset. You wouldn't really notice a difference being that resetting the Ecu will just set it back to factory defaults. A bad fuel pump or bad fuel injectors will cause it to run poorly so it won't hurt to look into that. The map sensor essentially adjusts the air/fuel ratio to keep it at or as close to14.6 depending on temperature and atmospheric conditions.
