You should have a 3 bolt flange on the header. I know its different then the 99 and down. You can see it in this picture.

I have a '98 Cherokee 4.0L 2DR Sport. I need a new muffler and tailpipe. I'm not looking for anything performance just something similar to OEM. I'd appreciate any suggestions you guys have. Thanks

Although Rock Auto has very prices I put those links up for reference. Walker is a well known exhaust component manufacturer. You can probably get them locally.

 

Ok, I am going to go with the Walker 21357, Stainless Steel and the Walker 55188 Tail Pipe (Kind of strange that Amazon and a couple sites say his doesn't fit my vehicle, the manufacture website says it does, as well as several other sellers and reviewers)

Why am I having such a hard time piecing together a 2000 exhaust system from the manifold back? the precats are a butthole to find, the new front pipe i have already ordered but it has a flange that the flowmaster muffler doesnt have on it. I guess the best route would be to return to walker front pipe and get one that doesnt have the walker cats on it. Also my current precats are welded to the front pipe so i cant simply unbolt the front pipe from the precats. Its all one piece from the precats to the regular cat

I'd take it to an exhaust shop and get it redone. I was quoted under $300 for header back including a new cat for my Cherokee. Don't remember exactly what he said it was, but it wasn't bad at all. And it would all be custom bent and run high up for clearance.

 

Think I could take the parts I have now for them to finish up?

 

I have had two dorman manifolds for 6 and 4 years. No cracks. I did replace motor and trans mounts too with the manifolds. I also used the included gasket some people say not to use without issues so far.

So im gonna do my exhaust shortly here a new system with o2 sensors. Anything quieter than the stock muffler or oem system? On rock auto im getting the daily driver kit with all the hangers and such And also what about my catalytic converter? Is there any specifics i should get or just anything on the rock auto site?

 

You'll just have to cut and flange it yourself -or- do what Hen suggested and take it to an exhaust shop.... I'd recommend that too unless you really really wanna do it yourself. That way they can mandrel bend you some tubing and get all the routing and everything perfect all the while welding up your muffler, cat, and whatever else you need.

Honestly, unless you're springing for a more expensive Borla, Banks, or Pacesetter header, the quality of the others are all about the same. Even the Banks Torque Tubes header design ended up cracking which prompted them to change the design to the Revolver.

Quieter than OE? Not likely. If you're "hearing" your factory exhaust, you probably have a leak somewhere and/or broken baffles in the muffler. Replacing it with the Walker exhaust components found on RockAuto will get you back to about where the OE sound levels are supposed to be. Walker is very good quality and has a good reputation for exhaust components.

 

Called a local exhaust shop. Said they need to see the heep to assess for an exhaust replacement but they dont have a mandrel bender anyway. Then called another place and they quoted me $250 for just a muffler replacement.
