HA!! Yeah, been there... But without the thrush... Or muffler in general... Last time I looked at the regs (MN regs) it said the exhaust note should be no louder than the other vehicle functions. They can suck it if you ask me. I have a thrush now and couldn't be happier.Originally Posted by chuck1225
Hey.. Has anyone been pulled over for having a thrush welded with a 2 inch tailpipe on your XJ? Trooper was really nice and didn't give me a ticket, just claims I was going "3 over the limit and your exhaust note is kinda loud, I think you might have a leak."

He was a younger guy.. I just thought it was because it was like 10 at night and I was coming home from work. I generally try to idle as much as I can in town to keep it quiet.Originally Posted by Tom95YJ
Sounds like the cop was old. My XJ is pretty loud with a header , 2.5" downpipe , hiflow cat , magnapack muffler and tailpipe And no one says anyone about it being loud. But I know it wakes up my neighbors across the street when I start it even while in my garage

^ this and they take up less room. Quality glass packs last a long time cheap ones last a year or so. I personally run magnaflows magnapack on my xj and order one for my YJ yesterdayOriginally Posted by chuck1225

So I'm used to tuning imports and I know that HFCs and removing silencers are some of the biggest things you can do to improve power post-headers. Does this apply to XJ's or does a nice muffler do the trick?

The 4.0 will make a bit more power with pretty much anything better than stock, but not much. I had replaced header and all on my 89 and definitely boosted the MPG and efficiency, but I couldn't feel a big boost in power.Originally Posted by XsV

Is anyone running the dynomax super turbo cat back system from summit racing? How good does the kit fit and how does it sound? Also it's showing a $50 mail in rebate for $150 and up but this kit is selling for $149. Did you get the rebate? Thanks

Seems to be a GOOD deal. You do know it's not a 2 1/2" system? Got a 4/5 rating with some good reviews to. There may be some video/audio threads you can search out and listen to.

Yeah I wanted to stay factory 2.25. I don't want to lose any power by going bigger. I was worried about not getting the rebate since it's priced below $150.Originally Posted by EZEARL
