I called a couple shops around here and the prices just to have a muffler welded on were outrageous. Ill try this first as its only $15 and see how ti comes out and if it doesnt work ill ask a personal friend who welds

Looks like a knockoff cambered muffler so it would probably sound like a thrush welded or a flowmaster if I had to guess.

Question

Hey so I am brand new to this. Just bought a 93 XJ - 4.0 i-6 engine - And I need to probably replace the header / exhaust system. What would you all recommend for replacing the headers / exhaust completely? I think the entire back end needs to be replaced; I haven't dug too deep into the condition, but It definitely sound and feels like new headers.

First off welcome to CF

Are you talking you want to replace with stock exhaust manifold or aftermarket header?

If it was me, I would go aftermarket header (Gibson)

Yeah I would like to go aftermarket for both. I'm going to tune up the engine, and I would like to go aftermarket for the headers, muffler, etc. Last time I dealt with stuff like this was on my old 05 Dakota where I put a flowmaster on it.
Also, would you recommend a K&N intake system for this engine, or something else?

No.. I would look into getting a THOR or Spectre cowl snorkel ..
or make your own cowl snorkel.
Lots of threads about making one.

What's the best muffler I can get with a deep tone but no annoying sound while cruising down the highway that's under $40? I was thinking of a cherrybomb but that might be too loud

Probably a thrush welded. If I remember correctly they're pretty cheap and they're a flowmaster knock off.

I had a thrush welded one that i found in the trunk of my XJ when I got it but the holes were offset on both sides so it was resting on the frame rail on one side and less than 1/16 of a inch from the driveshaft when I tried to install it. I'm trying to sell it and I'll probably pick up one that would fit better

They make various combinations of inlet and outlet. You should be able to get Center in offset out or whatever Cherokees need. I don't remember what fits right in them since I haven't had stock exhaust in so long

I am looking for better tone (not much louder) and some performance gains. Thank you, Great Sage.
Looking for the same thing, more or less. Issues with the o2 sensors?

Default ExhAust system

I just purchased a 2000 XJ sport 4x4 4.0, and cannot seem to get straight answers from the internet on an exhaust replacement. I see 2.25" and 2.5" as direct replacements. how is this possible? I'm looking to replace the cat, pipe to muffler, muffler, and tail pipe.

Any help is appreciated.
