Worked on the Comanche today. Never had to deal with rust before, but I guess it's time to learn how to fix rust on these things. Rails are solid and body panels are solid, but it's missing a lot on the driver's side floor and the passenger side has a couple holes. I'll go into more detail in the Comanche thread. Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

That might not be a bad idea. With my boneyard access I can probably get various wiring harnesses for cheap if not free. Maybe start grabbing some. Hatch, doors, etc. Check them out. Rebuild them if necessary. Have them ready to go if and when.

If you can afford a new floor pan for the driver side I would go that route and just patch the other side. Get it as clean as possible before you stitch weld them in. Cleanup the welds with a grinder just enough that they are smoothed out. I am a big believer in using POR-15 to neutralize the remaining rust and protect the new metal. I use a cheap one gallon insecticide sprayer to apply the degreaser and the etching solvents. It iseasier and applies more thoroughly. You will only need a pint for the floor panareas but if you buy a quart you will have plenty to cover other problem areas. after applying the POR-15 I would consider seem sealer in the nook and crannies on the understand and then coat the seem sealer with black paint. Now that Colorado is using magnesium chloride on our streets I will be doing more to the under side of my XJ for sure!

Same here on the POR 15. Don't know about the POR 15 Degreaser and Metal Prep but I tried using a bug sprayer for Purple Power. Worked great. Did what I needed to do. Then just put it away without emptying or cleaning . Did not think anything of it. Went to use it again, it had been sitting for quite some time I figure, and the Purple Power just corroded the hell out of it. Not that I cared. It was $10 but figured I would mention it.

Well I bought it. Then I cleaned the wheels and tires and the interior. Then I sanded and primered the roof. Nice to have a new project.

Bummer, back to square one. I have no idea why it is skipping and acting like an LSD in tight turns on the dirt? I can even see it in the tracks it leaves.

Thank you for confirming that. I figured when people told me about it that it was true but...... Now I don't have to remove covers, jack up boneyard Jeeps to spin tires, and hope the rear is not welded to find one. Maybe someday.

I was on my way to let you know for sure, so I'm glad you caught this. Yep, in fact I think if you were using a hook shaped gear oil hose end on a shop pump the LSD carrier would block it from going in the hole very far. So it would be right there to see at the the hole or feel with your finger.

Now the question is how would you describe what to look for through the whole without showing someone a picture of the two?
