finally found some time to get under my jeep. I swapped all three solenoids and replaced the filter. Seems to have solved the problem for now, however the fluid that came out was very dark and smelled burnt. I'm not sure what this indicates. Probably the latter, or maybe not.
Don't sweat it. Change the fluid several times, as recommended, or follow the recommendation in my sig for a complete and completely safe flush.
You are probably good to go for another 50 or 100 thousand miles.

Hey you all, My owners manual says that the +3 is only to be used in transmissions behind the 2.5L engine. If the trans is behind the 4.0L to use Dexron III 0r Mercon nothing about Mercon III. This is from the '99 owners manual.
