Default 94 ZJ tranny problem

Has the 5.2L

The engine runs great without any problems but the tranny with randomly not shift or down shift and the engine RPM will rise and the jeep won't have any power. This happens sometimes, but when it gets up to operating temperature the tranny does the same thing but much more often and after a short while it won't move, engine still runs but it's like all power to the tranny quits and it won't move again until the engine cools down, then repeat...

Any help?

I would venture a guess and say the transmission is toast. How does the fluid look and smell?

It's done, put a fork in it. You may try a service and put some magic potion in it, it might work for a day or two, but not forever.

how do you know it's done? It has some of the symptoms of a bad governor solenoid

get over it? I just didn't know what's wrong with it. I bought it cheap and wanted to know if it was repairable because I was told its probably the governor solenoid

When the gov solenoid fails the trans won't shift out of first gear. From what you describe it sounds like it's slipping. The burnt and stinky fluid confirms it.
