Then on to the rear wheel well hoops. The front of the hoop ties into my 2x6 (plus 1”) rock sliders. The rear into my rear bumper.

After doing the passenger side, time to start on the cross bars. Doing this design allowed me to place the front and rear bars exactly where I want them. Far enough up and back that it’s not in my line of sight and doesn’t impede windshield servicing.

I want the cage to be as tight to the body as possible. The more I looked at other designs, most create a halo then uprights to give it support. This works we’ll strength wise but is difficult to keep super tight to the body. A loop front to rear with cross bars over the roof would allow me to keep the cage extra tight to the body.

This is a better angle to see how much it needed to move. About 11/2 inches. I bent the lip of the part I cut to give it a bit more rigidity.

Shaved the bottom of the plastic bumper ends a bit and they bolted on. Even got the factory license plate mount on for now! This is a temporary situation for Fred as he’s going to add a different bumper in the future. Otherwise I would have cut and welded in a piece to fill the long slice at the bottom of the bumper. But, check out the before and after pics, that’s hidden! 😂

Ended up cutting along the bottom of the angle and mostly flattening out the angle. Left the crease line in so it matched the rest of the bumper.

Cut some notches for the shackle points and fitted it up. This is where we found the bottom 45deg angle on the bumper hits the middle winch plate area of the mount. Damnit!

This Jeep had been involved in a head on type accident so fitting the mount was a challenge. After a bit of hammering, tweaking and cussing it fit 👍. The mount actually realigned the frame area close to factory spec.

The bumper ends took a little clearance grinding on the inboard/lower area, then they bolted on. Even the stock license plat mount bolted on! The customer is going to finish up some more mods to make the winch and d-ring mounts accessible.

Got the mount on ok. This one was a bit of a challenge as this Jeep had been in a pretty serious hit to the front end. Took some muscle, hammer time, and determination to get the Jeep to cooperate 😂

Now it fits. The fairlead will bolt to the front of the bumper. This Custer is eventually going to upgrade this bumper. Otherwise we would have welded a piece back in to fill the gap caused by the slice and make it totally right.

Ended up having to slice the lower part of the bumper and bend that area out to gain clearance. I revert a small lip on the bottom to gain back some rigidity lost in the mod.

Cut the slots in the bumper and then realized how much the bottom angle hit the actual winch plate, center area, of the mount.

This is my current front bumper. When I add my exo cage I am thinking I’ll redo it and eliminate the lower bar. It’s theremostly to protect the winch solenoid box that’s getting relocated under the hood. Btw, the bumper is bolted to the stock 6 bolt location just like a stocker so with some minor bracket adjustments, slotting for shackle mounts, a stock bumper should bolt right over the winch mount. Now if that darn plasma table would just get here...

They work great! One of my favorite mods so far! The clearance is amazing and they are tough as nails! I got in a lot of situations like this and barely scratched the paint! I’m loving this! Well worth all the work 👍

Just trimmed the length then put the hub on to check clearance and it works! No more loose hub nuts 🤞
