T-Case Swap

I know this has been posted a bunch but I just wanted to double check 2 things. So I have a np249 and I am looking to swap in a np231. I also have a v8, this may be a total dumb question but a 231 from a 4.0 will still work in my 5.2 right? Its shouldn't make a difference? Second, I have a 96 5.2, I hear I should get a 231 from a 96 XJ because the spine and yolk should be the same? I just want to make sure I get the right thing from pick n pull. Thanks!

The spline counts should be the same but you will have to swap the input shaft from the 249 to the 231 because the 231 shaft is way shorter. If you don't it won't seal properly and it will puke tranny fluid
