Default Np242 swap for a 231

Okay guys so I have a 92 XJ 4.0 L with a np242 right now
I would like to swap the np242 for the np231 but haven't heard of anyone ever doin this before.
Has anyone ever done this swap before or know any info on this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Is there something wrong with your np242? If not I would say just keep it man.

Well I have a 6" lift on my jeep now and 2" spacers on the front so it sits up pretty high. I can really feel the vibrations and stress on my driveshaft and t-case. And I don't really have the money to get the Tom woods SYE for the 242 right now. But I have a free 231 laying around which I could get the SYE for, for a lot cheaper. So if possible i was gonna go that route

And I looked everywhere on Google and couldn't find anything so I made an account here to try and get some help from people that actually know what they're talking about (hopefully)

There is a $100 hack-and-tap yoke that works well with a stock front driveshaft. Iron Rock Offroad sells them. I have been using one over three years now.

My front and rear driveshafts are both after market, spicer ones. so do I go for the swap, save up for the hack n tap, or just roll with it? Lol

I would do Hack n' Tap it will be easier and you will get the same result. Sell the NP231 and buy the SYE. Thats just my 2 cents.

Yeah i would hack and tap or sye what you got now,Now if you do end up breaking the t case then i would look in to a flipped dana 300 or something stronger.

I used the Dirt Bound hack and tap kit on the NP242 in my 91, no problems with it
