I don't really have experience with Johnny joints. And heims worked fine for me in the past so I'm gonna stick with it for now

I gave you a good idea. With yours and Jim's fab skills, and my design background, I'm sure we could make that work. Lol

Trip to the scrap yard should get you the nuts you need. Those are not a torque-to-yield, so it shouldn't hurt anything to reuse them.

Don't know about up your way, but down here the self-serve yards are having half off sales for Labor Day weekend.

I'm good. I bought brand new nuts from eBay for less than 18 shipped.

I don't have time to go to the junkyard anymore.

Oh yea I remember now

Finished welding the coil cups on the buckets, welded the sway bar mounts on the axle. (Yes I'm gonna keep sway bar.) then painted the axle.

I got knuckles and everything out; the spindles, brake hub and rotor, etc from the attic and brought them down to the floor.

I forgot to remove the rust. Oh well. I was looking up for the prices on new rotor & brake hubs and they are about $120. I haven't decided yet.

I took the old rotors (with the hub pressed on it) to an automotive machine shop next to my work so they can turn it. They refused and another shop refused to do it too..

Got me thinking. Ok I ll buy new ones then.

Of course I painted the hub portion so it wouldn't rust and beside I didn't want the shiny bare metal showing after the wheels are bolted on.

Will be pressing the new bearings into the hub when I get the old spindles cleaned up at work tomorrow.

I also popped the knuckles on the axle after hitting it with a fresh coat of black.

Gotta wait for the father in law to come so he can hold the axle while I torque the ball joint nuts.

I also finished welding up the trans mount & hit it with couple coats of paint. Haven't finished assembling yet. So no pic now.

Made some bumpstops for the axle using old hockey pucks. Drilled 3/8 holes through and then used a counter bore bit to bore out the hole a bit to make room for the socket head to sit flush.

Tightened the steering box spacer on the frame. With 2 bolts and then added 3 new longer bolts to hold the box itself.

Hmmm. Now that the knuckles are on the axle. I think I ll go ahead and make the tie rod across it.
I ll worry about the drag link after the axle is positioned under the MJ while the weight is on it.

Another thing I did was to put the steering column in... that ugly *** wheel gonna come off. I was thinking I ll just leave the tan 3 spoke wheel alone on the other column and find a black in same version and use it.

Yeah. Good progress

Put the heim on the upper mount. I think I can clear the lines if I zip tied everything up a bit

My spindles are shot. It's way too rusted and flaking off. Causing the dimensions to change... the seals no longer can be pressed in (it's just loosey) and the surface where the seal rides on are pitted.

So I bought two new spindles. Ugh. Oh well

Anybody wanna buy more of my stuff so I can afford them. Lol
