Hey all, coming to you looking for help. My wife’s daily driver, a 2015 Cherokee, is having brake issues. We took it to the dealership hoping it was due to the trunk brake computer water intrusion TSB but alas the faults are mechanical in nature. The dealership recommended that the brake booster, vacuum line, and vacuum pump be replaced but $1500 is a tough pill to swallow. I just drove the Jeep back home, and aside from massively increased pedal effort it brakes fine. Is this something I could feasibly DIY? I’m a BMW guy and own a BMW shop specializing in pre-2010 stuff, I know my way around cars, but haven’t ever dealt with anything newer or American.
Otherwise, if anyone in the Bay Area (925) knows of some trusted indy shops I could take it to that would be much appreciated.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Once the car cools down I plan ok investigating for myself.
I'm be upset that they charged $199 to diagnose the booster not holding vacuum - assuming it's the booster and not the broken/glued plastic piece..
I was upset when I saw that too believe me. But I replaced the cam driven vacuum pump and booster hose with OEM parts and the brakes are still shot, so I suppose the booster is the only thing left.
