Default Y setup steering or sold tie rod?

Ive seen threads with people who prefer one over the other. Im researching and looking at the solid tie rod setup such as the one Rustys offers. If I went with a solid tie rod, will it improve my steering and handling? I want something that doesnt involve reaming or swapping steering knuckles. Any input and advice on this?

if you don't want to mess with welding, reaming, or any such manual labor. just get a ZJ tie rod to upgrade you y-link setup. but at 6.5" I'd be interested in OTK steering of some sort. I couldn't stand the stupid y-link even at 4.5". I didn't even know how much I hated it till I upgraded

(OTK) over the knuckle. raises the tie rod out of the way of the rocks a bit and helps your steering angles a bit. only problem is you have to redo your track bar

I'm running crossover using a teraflex knuckle and custom linkage. not something ever jeeper needs. but soooo nice on the street

you can buy something like these you'll be in decent shape. looks like stock size tie rod end though. or maybe a little bigger

doesn't look like it involves any drilling or inserts. check the installation instructions to be sure. explore your options a bunch of different sites offer similar options

or if that doesn't work for you there is always the good ol' zj tie rod. mine served me well but it had to go eventually

Ole green whats up man. Yea at your height the factory y setup is a joke im afraid. The WJ knuckle upgrade would definitely help you out. Would also make a hefty brake upgrade as well. I will attach a pic of my crossover setup. I have one massive 1.5" tie rod that goes knuckle to knuckle. Eliminating the toe change. Basically it just required drilling out the pitman arm and knuckles to fit the 3/4" bolts. To actually get the tie rod OVER the knuckle you would have to cut and relocate the sway bar mounts. Im just a tad over 4" if lift and just dandy. Now for the steering box definitely avoid reman at all cost. PSC would be the best option for ya. Im running the road series 14:1 ratio box. Very tight and firm.

so just bending your drag link like that really eliminates the bump steer huh?

WJ upgrade is the best option of course. too bad it's about $800 for everything and a chit ton of work

Yep. I mean your teraflex kit is sweet. But my setup was affordable and tough. Didn't require a knuckle swap.

it's a direct replacement. not very time consuming

not my point though. I was just curious as I don't think I'd ever seen someone bend the drag link like that as opposed to putting their track bar over the axle. that's all

I suppose theres always more than one way to achieve a worthy upgrade. I already had a BDS track bar so i was able to find a solution to retain it. Thumbs up for teraflex though.

That'd be a horizontal movement. Its just a bolt on stronger y setup. At 6.5" he really needs OTK.

Understood.. The Currie does have bends at the pitman arm and passenger knuckle to eliminate binding.
4.5" lift seems to be it's neutral point and what it's best for.
Thanks

I couldn't stand the inverted Y on stock. I have 2.5" of lift and a crossover with heims, drives better than new
