I think they were all 35s. Not sure.

One more question. Can you use any wheels with them. I read on another thread that only steel wheels will work with disc brakes because of the clearance. I have the stock aluminum 5 spoke 15x7 Jeep wheels.

Yes, and lucky you, the plates will bolt right up without additional modification. For the 8.25 axle you have to grind out the axle tube opening to fit.

Lies. I also have the stock aluminum 5 spokes on my XJ, and they fit fine with the rear disc conversion I did once I put the longer ZJ wheel studs in. I think any wheel should fit as long as it's 5x4.5

Awesome. In that case this will get added to the mod list. I hate dealing with drum brakes.I can never get them right.

I put a 14 inch Ford Ranger wheel on just to see if it would clear the caliper. It did.

You can also use the wheel studs from your front hubs.

The backing plates are the same, It does not matter it the donor ZJ has dana 35 or dana 44a.

And IMHO the KJ setup is a better choice, They have anti-rattle clips. Better for the long run, No grooves to weld back up. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/k...ences-1373644/

Good luck finding a KJ Setup! But anyway, anti-rattle clips? Not sure what you're talking about, you mean the ones that come with brake pads??? That's all I can think of. My ZJ rear discs are quiet as can be. I didn't have to weld any grooves either

Even if you only find the disc blacking plates, you can go to the parts store and buy everything else you need.

They are both the same.

I got it figured. Snagged an 04 liberty rear end from the JY for $200. Sucks I had to get the whole rear end but its another 8.25 with 3.73 gears, exact set up i have so ill be keeping it just in case. Still pulled the axles and put on mine just to keep myself from doing spring perch work. Thanks for the help.

Nice! Are you SURE you have 3.73 gears in your front axle, too? They must be the same for the front and rear

Isn't the KJ 8.25 about 2" wider than the XJ 8.25?

Default Rear Disc Conversion / Proportion Valve

FYI...
About 6 or 7 months ago:
I converted my 89 XJ Dana 44 to the Tera-Flex rear disc brake conversion.
After the install, I really didn't feel a difference in stopping ability.
The last month or two my brakes have squeeled and the brake pedal pulsed and felt soft.
I got furloughed with the gov't shutdown (Vote out all the democrats) so I've been doing maintenance on the XJ.
I changed the front brakes and the front rotors were really scored bad.
I went to do the back brakes and they looked like they were installed yesterday. No visible wear.
I bled the brakes but no change in stopping or feel.
I then took off the o-ring from the piston in the proprtion valve and bled the brakes again.
Holy stopping power Bat Man! Significant change for the better. I would guess my stopping distance is now half of what it was.
I'll have to get around to doing the brake booster upgrade and really experience some stopping power.
Cheers,
Jason
