Default XJ 242 power ratings.

Hey, fellas! New to the group and I can’t seem to find the thread, although I’m sure it’s been discussed before.

So here's the scoop; I have a ‘95 Xj with a low mileage and manual transmission that I just swapped an NP 242 FT/PT case into. (Figured it would be a blast) Anyways, next step is a 4.5 lift with slip yoke elimination, 35” tires, and swivel shackles for articulation crawling around the Colorado Rockies. My next upgrade will be a 4.7 stroker motor, and possibly a supercharger, and later a PT locker in the front and rear diff for serious duty moments, and this leads to the question of this thread.

What kind of power can this NP 242 handle in FT with open diffs, or should I have stepped up to the 32 spline on the H3 unit?

What say you, gentlemen? Any luck on keeping this AWD beast a rocket on the road without going bigger, or can this unit handle 300-350 hp without turning to shrapnel? Thanks!!

I think you will be fine, the np242 is a pretty stout transfer case and they rarely have a catastrophic failure.

Good to know. Seemed like such a great combo and I heard those 242’s were durable. Thanks!
