I have a 1997 jeep Cherokee with a 98 trans and engine harness. Ran great for months until I blew motor up and swapped a 96 motor into it, ran for about 30 miles then starting having major electrical issues and now I have absolutely no spark. It just cranks, can someone help me figure this mess out? It’s been about 2 weeks of constantly trying to get it fixed and nobody I know seems to know what I could be and they’re mechanics

Have you checked the ignition switch and wiring inside ? just asking questions and trying to think of different things that will cause a no start .

yes, I've checked the ignition switch, just found out that my junction block in the kick panel is all corroded and wires are breaking off in the main plug, when i wiggle the main plug around my head lights go on and off and my gauges that don't work jump around a tiny bit and my radio will come on and off, i think i need to get a new junction block and that main plug. but would that cause my fuel pump not to come on and my jeep to get no spark and not start?

replaced the junction block in the kick panel and all the wires to it and still nothing. i have replaced the engine harness, junction block in the kick panel and the main harness for that and still nothing. i'm stumped and none of this makes any sort of sense. i have no fuel,no spark, and no gauges. can someone please give me an answer on to why this is happening.

Make sure ALL the grounds are attached.
When I was doing some wiring, I had the driver side ground loose at the washer and it was doing a lot of weird stuff. I remembered it was loose and it fixed all the weird things happening.

I think 97 and 96 were not the same pcm as the 98. ? A wild guess would be it's in some kind of a failsafe auto shut down mode after the fuse block went. Or the pcm is damaged, etc. Time to break out the volt ohm meter and some schematics and do some testing.
My footwell block did the same corrosion thing, I replaced it too, but you do have to look over the plugs as I had some wires in the plugs that needed replacing too. The wires separated from the spade terminals from corrosion.

so i replaced the harness that goes to the sensors and injectors and it started and i have a distributor with a 2000 computer and 2000's have coil packs, the jeep sounds like a lawnmower and its running on like 2 or 3 cylinders, it wont really move under its own power, im now wondering if the computer thats programmed for coil packs is the reason why its running like that because i have a distributor. could that be the actual reason? i dont want to spend 200$ on a new computer for no reason.

Clean and refresh all the grounds again and make sure they're tight. This really what it sounds like. Especially since it started and ran and then stopped. Sounds like the computer got some faulty read back information because the tolerances weren't right.
