Hello everyone,
I just picked up a winch (Superwinch 8500) and am in the process of gathering all the accessories for it.
1) It has a hawse fairlead and has steel cable. Should I use a roller fairlead in front as well?
2) Can I use this as a ****** block? I'd remove the hook and have a clevis shackle connect there instead?
Thank you

A hawse fairlead is fine for steel rope, as long as the fairlead is also STEEL. The hawse fairleads that are aluminum are for synthetic ONLY. I'm assuming yours is steel but just throwing that out there.

In a high usage application (think industrial), yes that would be the case. In winching, unless you're using it 365 days a year you probably would never notice the difference. You would have to pull the cable over the fairlead MANY MANY times for it to show any noticeable wear on the cable. Advantage of the hawse fairlead is the thinner profile and lighter weight than the roller (unless the steel isn't actually that much lighter; someone correct me if I'm wrong). And in this case the OP already has the hawse and doesn't HAVE to spend more $ on the roller. lol
