Default Weird stuff around air filter after washing it...

so i just cleaned my spectre air filter, just used water and dried it naturally. After washing it i noticed a sand colored substance around each ends of the filter and partially inside. No idea what this is, was not there before and has turned into a solid. it will not even scratch off. Has anyone else ever had this issue or am i just going crazy????

All I can say is I have a K&N I have had since 1997 and had no issues....clean and oil it the way they suggested and it still looks all most new.....for 14 yrs old...all in all a lot cheeper than a paper filter and a bit more performance...so I take care of it there way

Have you ever seen a motor with a blown head. Under the oil cap looks sandy and white film. All that is is some of the film stuff "oil and water mix" stuck in the filter. You can't scrap it cause it is a filter that is poris. Clean it the right way and it should came clean. If not and its only on the edges it wont effect anything.
