If you are worried about oil, check out this thread, it is what many use here and have good results.
I don't know much about the V6 other than most will say to upgrade it, but even the 2.5L I4 from that year is considered an upgrade as they are much more durable. Another option many go with is the 3.8L V6 (or 3.6L I can't remember for certain which one is the same), I believe it requires very little in the way of adapters.

Thanks again .
Yes have seen threads on putting in 3,2 etc not interested in the whole fuel injection thing. I will keep the stock carb etc probably on it. Was wondering about upgrades for the 2.8 as it will be a sometime wheeler and mostly snow vehicle for my daughter ,we live in colorado.

Shouldn't need a donor vehicle for the engine, should be able to find one at a junkyard or on eBay or CL.
Not sure you will find much more than stock replacement parts for any of these engines. The one part I know to look for for either the 2.8 or the 2.5 is the Weber replacement carb from Redline. http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/Carburetor-Conversion-Kits-s/25.htm?gclid=CL7N1YbozbQCFQ45nAodOm0ACQ
Look under GM S-10/Blazer to find the 2.8*
You might be able to find a mild overgrind on the cam, or some headers, but the weakness in the 2.8 was its lack of durability so not so many performance parts were designed for it I would imagine. The carb upgrade to Weber though would be helpful since it does away with the electronics on the stock carb which can give a lot of problems.
