Wj knuckle swap on xj but wanting to keep wj bolt pattern
I'm going to be doing a wj brake and steering upgrade and moving to OTK.
I'd like to keep the WJ's 5x5 bolt pattern and run some rubicon anniversary wheels. Anyone done this swap like this?
Also curious if this swap moves your wheels mounting point out so the wheel/tire would stick out further.
I think I'll just need the spacer from JKS but just want to be sure. My buddy has a complete wj parts rig and said have at it.
I know what's evolved in the swap as far as ginger with the xj hubs. I know about the better calipers which his has.

So I think that the problem will be with the stub axles.
For the stub axles, the WJ uses CV and XJ uses U joints.
When you use the XJ unit bearing and XJ stub axles and U joints, you need to weld the JKS spacer onto the WJ knuckle to move the XJ unit bearing out 1/4" so to make the U joint be in line with the ball joints. Otherwise it will bind when turning.
If you use the WJ unit bearing and your XJ stub axles and U joint, there is not enough threads/length on the end of the XJ stub axle to get the washer, nut and cotter pin to secure the nut in place.
You might be able to use the WJ inner and outer axle shafts and CV joints but that is an additional cost but I an not 100% sure. Most want to use their XJ axle shafts and U joints.

why not just use a wheel spacer that also changes the pattern from 5 on 4.5 to 5 on 5, you will need it anyway for the rear . unless you are also changing the rear axle/ shafts ?

I will be using CV shafts and I will work through whatever problems I incur.
I believe there is a simple steering solution, also, that no one has explored yet.
Most people are encumbered by wheel size, I am not.

I belive the wj shafts are longer for the inners/outer and would not fit the housing width of the xj.
The wheels I want to run on lunch come in 5x5 and I figured it would be an easier swap to just keep the 5x5.

The whole front axle wj is 63.5 inches wide which the xj is 60,You might be able to have the wj shafts cut down or custom axles made.Or go nuts and swap in jk axles they are a little wider and the 5x5 you want.

ok ,so then just use the spacers in the front, the 9 " is probably wider then the xj 30 so it may make the wheel track the same ?

People are largely unimaginative, this is why they regurgitate the montra found in this thread and everywhere else.
CV shafts being weaker is a misnomer.
I'll make a point here:
This site is at the top of a search but the same info can be found anywhere, http://www.dutchmanaxles.com/services
Shortening stock CV WJ shafts are CHEAPER than a pair of spacers. $135.00
There is your solution, OP. There are other solutions too.

I was referring to wheel spacers/adapters.
Everyone keep loosing focus here that he wants to keep the 5x5 bolt circle.
So, why space down to the 4.5 hub then space back out using an adapter to the 5x5?
People are turning this into a circus, and it does not need to be.
