transfer case overdrive???
many years ago I had a j20 3/4 tom pickup and I bought a transfer case upgrade to get rid of the quad track and do lockouts I came with a overdrive kit that really improved my mileage
I was wondering if any made them for our Cherokee's a lockout kit would be nice too

The only real option you'd have for T-case gearing is 4:1 gears and a 2-lo kit. Neither of those are anything like an overdrive.
You could run a doubler kit and what ever case you wanted behind it... but that's a hell of a lot of cash to gain a few MPGs.
What t-case do you have?
They do make lock-out conversions but they're rather spendy when you could swap in an axle that's stronger and already has lockouts for the same price.
I doubt you're going to see any crazy increase in MPGs by running lock outs anyways.

Don't forget. You're not driving a Honda.

Are you talking about over drive like what a Dana 20 came with on some options? My dad's 43 CJ2 has this. But it also only has a 3 speed transmission so it needed the overdrive to reach higher then 45 MPH without over reving the engine and decreasing gas mileage.
I am confused on what you would want this for on a Cherokee....? The RPMS are in a good range stock from the factory as long as you geared properly when you go with bigger tires.

Are you thinking of a Gear Vendors overdrive setup? They're almost 3grand, that is about a months worth of gas for an XJ.
well here our speed limit is 65 or 70 and I get my best mileage at 55 or so and I do a lot of driving so I would like a little more overdrive I could probably go a little bigger tires I like to keep rpm at 1800 or so I am not sure what t case I have I am thinking it is a new process
what ever came in a 96 with and auto

Its not just the RPM the makes the difference at higher speed. Think wind resistance. You are driving a box down the road. The strait 6 is decently powerful but it will not hold 70 MPH at 1800 RPM very easily in a Cherokee.

When I'm going 70 my rpms are pretty much at 2250. That's on 32s and 4.10s. I read somewhere that the 4.0l is most efficient around I think it was 2100 to 2600 rpm. That's when the engine isn't lugging or revving past it's power band.
