Does anybody know how this is supported in the bumper? I know that the stock rear bumper is weak. I'm wanting to build a tire carrier like this for my 98 Sport but I just don't know how to support it.

Interesting design. Where did you find that at?

Just a guess but maybe it's not even mounted and just sitting there.

I'd have to say, same as Detours Backbone. Behind the stock bumper there is a crap load of reinforcing. The stock bumper is put back on for looks only. And may I say it looks damn nice. Looks really clean & finished.

If it were any good, it would be designed that way. But by first looks, it doesn't look like it's set up like that at all. The Backbone comes through the front of the rear bumper where it connects to unibody tie-in brackets behind the bumper.

This one looks nice, but the guy obviously hasn't provided much detail or images of how it's mounted. The plastic bumper cap where the spindle is coming up out of is hollow at that spot, so he must have had to do some serious reinforcing there.

I don't know that I would even trust that carrier with a donut on it, as they say "Where's The Beef".

Yeah i wouldn't run that either. The swing out tubing looks small so does the pivot point and no clue how much or any bracing hes added under the bumper.
