I thinking of buying a '89 2 door XJ, I-6 & auto trans.

It has a 8 in Rusty's long arm kit with bald 38's. The axles were swapped out with a non-cad 30 & disc brake 8.8. Not sure of gears or lockers. Front & rear fenders are hacked pretty good.

My question is can I put 4.5 in coils in there & still use the LA kit? I was gonna lift the rear with a bastard pack.

This is gonna be a toy & not a DD but I would like to drive it to some trails.

BTW, this thing has no SYE !!!! But I have one in the attic.

 

Price? Is it clean and what's the mileage? Sounds like a decent base

 

Buy a stock XJ and start from scratch it's cheaper to build then replace a previous owners mistakes

 

The rustys lift scares me 500 bucks or less is the max id pay for it.Find a virgin xj and build it your way its a lot cheaper then finding and fixing other peoples mess ups.

 

I've heard Rustys is junk but it's on the XJ. I'm also figuring into the budget having to replace a few things that are worn, missing or just wrong.

Sorry, $500 would be a slap in the face for all of the junk slapped on this thing. It has a winch, bumpers, 8.8, cage, ton steering with brace, & probably locked in at least on axle but thanks for all the responses.

Putting the 4.5 inch coils in should work they do sell 4.5 inch long arm lifts.You might have to change the shocks if they bottom out tho.

 

Yeah, I'm sure the shocks are too long plus they are in terrible condition.

 

Sooooo true. I 100% agree. I imagine there's plenty of rigged crap on there.

 

you will have to adjust the caster might check how much room for adjustment they have i cant remember
