Im not sure if this is the right section or not, mods move as needed. I know this isn't a hotrod forum Lol but maybe somebody here can help me. I don't want to create an account on another forum just to ask this question. My dad got t5 tranny out of a 78ish camaro. He bought an s10 tail shaft off eBay to do the tail shaft conversion. I was doing the install tonight and ran into an issue with the a bearing seat around where the oil flinger sits. The old tail shaft and new tail shaft have are different than each other. Anybody know what I need to do here? T5 Transmission-image-3410685458.jpg The news tail shaft T5 Transmission-image-1183883889.jpg The old tail shaft

What exactly is it that you are trying to install this gearbox into? If it's a Jeep, yes, Jeep used a T5 as well but it was a little different.

Got it. Now for next question. (Sorry but I like to gather as much info as possible due to the fact that I myself am known to "Frankenstein" some things. It makes helping you guys out easier.) But what was the need for the tail cone conversion? Was it length concern or yoke compatibility?

the shifter will sit too far back therefore coming up through the seat. The S10 tail shaft will move the shifter forward almost 10"s.

here's more pics. You can see the oil slinger and bearing. As you can see,
The bearing will sit flush in the grove for the original tailshaft housing but not for the s10 tail shaft housing.

Yup, just as I thought. I hate to tell you this but the output shafts are slightly different based on model vehicle the T5 was used in. Your best bets are either take both tail housings to a machine shop to show them what you want, swap the output shaft for a S-10 model or just find a whole S-10 model T-5.

well then, he won't be happy. Haha. I'll probably go with the machine shop idea.

Alright I figured a few things out. Apparently this is a non world class T5 and I have a World class S10 tail shaft. The two won't mix and match. From what I read online. A world class T5 tranny will mount to a non world class tail shaft, but no the other way around. So I'm just gonna get a non world class tail shaft to match the non world class tranny.
