Spray can job
How much would it cost me to use canned spray paint (Army Green) to do my whole jeep comanche MJ short bed? Is it a smart idea and easy? Or should i get it done for $300 at the local body work station. They dont do to good of a job tho. Plz give opinions and pictures if you have them.

Start standing with a more gritty paper, work your way down to a fine grit. Wash it..
Then wipe the entire thing down with acetone..Then rewash it..
Then begin painting.
Total cost to me was about 150 bucks for everything.. maybe a bit less.
Took about 15 total hours

Dont over load one area of paint.. Do sections at a time.. I started with the roof.. Then did the fenders seperately, the hood, each door seperately, rear quarter panels, hatch.
Tape everything off well...
Make smooth even streaks across the surface.

You could do a Rustoleum spray job with a Wagner-style sprayer and some cans of paint from Walmart. Here's a funny video of a guy who did just that:
Or look into the Monstaliner 2 gallon kit (they have colors available for a little more) if you'd prefer to spend a little more and get a tougher coating.

well man i work in an autobody shop and i plan on painting my xj as well and even though me getting a huge discount i still wont paint my jeep professionally because if i take it off road and get trail rash Im gonna be ticked off bc i wasted 300 bucks on a job i have to re do where as if i spray bombed it correctly i can touch it up CORRECTLY and your wallet wont scream at you.
Also let me add about correct prepping this is of utmost importance before you even sand your jeep wash it. Then wipe it down with wax and grease remover or acetone and wipe it on and off panel by panel and then begin sanding with 320 or 400 grit this is assuming all of your paint is okay (no clearcoat peel rust etc) sand until its not shiny in the light make sure you edge your panelsor when you pull your tape off it might peel the paint after sanding blow the car off with a blow gun and small air compressor starting with jambs and undedr the hood to prevent trash then tape and paint. Stay about 6 inches away and more quickly moving in horizontal motions all the way across a panel until a break like between doors etc let it tack up for 5-10 minutes and go for another light coat do 3 light coats then hit a heavier coat to finish it off. If youre worried about texture let it cure for 2 days or so and wetsand with 1000 or 2000 grit and lightly buff.
